Patchy dense fog has developed across parts of Pitt, Martin, and Greene Counties early this morning. Visibilities may fall as low as one quarter to one half of a mile through around 8 am this morning. This will impact the Highway 64, Highway 17, and Highway 264 corridors. Motorists are urged to slow down, use low beam headlights, and allow extra following distance.

The fog will be the most dense across portions of the Triangle, the Sandhills and eastern Piedmont where visibilities will be less than a half mile at times. Dense fog will affect parts of East Tennessee, southwest Virginia, and southwest North Carolina this morning, mainly near area lakes and rivers. Some freezing fog is being seen on local observations and satellite imagery over the area this morning. The National Weather Service in Grand Forks has issued a Red Flag Warning for wind and low relative humidity, which is in effect from 11 AM this morning to 8 PM CDT this evening. * AFFECTED AREA...In North Dakota, Eddy, Griggs, Steele, Traill, Barnes, Cass, Ransom, Sargent and Richland. * WINDS...Northwest 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 40 mph. * RELATIVE HUMIDITY...As low as 20 percent. * IMPACTS...Any fires that ignite will spread rapidly and become difficult to control. Outdoor burning is not recommended.

Satellite imagery is showing areas of freezing fog over the western interior portions of western Alger County this morning, from just southwest of Munising westward. Drive with extra caution during the pre-dawn hours this morning as some spots may be slick and icy. In addition, use your low-beam headlights to help others see you in the fog.
