At 615 PM MDT, Doppler radar was tracking a strong thunderstorm 18 miles south of Higbee, or 31 miles south of North La Junta, moving northeast at 30 mph. Minor hail damage to vegetation is possible. This storm will remain over mainly rural areas of southeastern Otero, northeastern Las Animas and southwestern Bent Counties.

Since 4 PM MDT there have been several reports of west wind gusts near 60 mph in the Snake Basin between Mountain Home and Twin Falls. These winds are dangerous for high-profile vehicles, especially on north-south roads. In addition, the strong winds have caused areas of blowing dust with visibility as low as one mile. Winds will diminish slowly after 7 PM MDT but will remain gusty through midnight.
