Description: 
At 414 PM EDT, Doppler radar was tracking strong thunderstorms along a line extending from near Cary to 9 miles north of Fuquay-Varina to 12 miles east of Pittsboro. Movement was east at 20 mph. HAZARD...Wind gusts up to 50 mph and penny size hail. SOURCE...Radar indicated. IMPACT...Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects. Minor hail damage to vegetation is possible. Locations impacted include... Raleigh, Durham, Cary, Wake Forest, Garner, RDU International, Apex, Holly Springs, Morrisville, and Knightdale. This includes the following highways... Interstate 40 between Mile Markers 280 and 306. Interstate 440 between Mile Markers 1 and 16. Interstate 540 between Mile Markers 0 and 24. US 1 between Mile Markers 90 and 101. the Durham Freeway between Mile Markers 2 and 5.

If outdoors, consider seeking shelter inside a building. Torrential rainfall is also occurring with these storms and may lead to localized flooding. Do not drive your vehicle through flooded roadways. Frequent cloud to ground lightning is occurring with these storms. Lightning can strike 10 miles away from a thunderstorm. Seek a safe shelter inside a building or vehicle.
