Description:
At 133 PM EDT, Doppler radar was tracking strong thunderstorms along
a line extending from near Creedmoor to near Chapel Hill. Movement
was east at 10 mph.
HAZARD...Wind gusts up to 50 mph, torrential rain and pea size hail.
SOURCE...Radar indicated.
IMPACT...Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around
unsecured objects. Minor hail damage to vegetation is
possible. Localized ponding on roadways and minor flooding
possible.
Locations impacted include...
Raleigh, Durham, Chapel Hill, Hillsborough, Creedmoor, Carrboro,
Butner, Morrisville, Stem, and Falls Lake State Rec Area.
This includes the following highways...
Interstate 85 between Mile Markers 163 and 196.
Interstate 40 between Mile Markers 259 and 283.
Interstate 540 between Mile Markers 0 and 6.
the Durham Freeway between Mile Markers 2 and 17.
Instruction:
If outdoors, consider seeking shelter inside a building.
Torrential rainfall is also occurring with these storms and may lead
to localized flooding. Do not drive your vehicle through flooded
roadways.
A Severe Thunderstorm Watch remains in effect until 800 PM EDT for
central North Carolina.
