At 301 PM EDT, Doppler radar was tracking an area of strong winds along a line extending from near Cary to Fuquay-Varina. Movement was east at 40 mph. HAZARD...Wind gusts up to 50 mph. SOURCE...Radar indicated. IMPACT...Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects. Locations impacted include... Raleigh, Garner, Clayton, Knightdale, Lake Benson, and Lake Wheeler. This includes the following highways... Interstate 40 between Mile Markers 292 and 313. Interstate 440 near Mile Marker 1, and between Mile Markers 12 and 16. Interstate 540 between Mile Markers 20 and 24.

If outdoors, consider seeking shelter inside a building. Strong winds may occur well ahead of any rain or lightning. Do not wait for the sound of thunder before taking cover. SEEK SHELTER IMMEDIATELY inside a sturdy structure and stay away from windows. A Severe Thunderstorm Watch remains in effect until 900 PM EDT for central North Carolina.
