Description:
At 1210 AM EDT, Doppler radar was tracking strong thunderstorms in
northern New York, extending along a line from Brighton to 7 miles
southeast of Clifton to near West Carthage. Movement was east at 40
mph.
HAZARD...Wind gusts up to 40 mph and very heavy rainfall.
SOURCE...Radar indicated.
IMPACT...Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around
unsecured objects. Torrential rainfall may lead to
localized flooding in poor drainage areas.
Locations impacted include...
Adirondack Regional Airport, Saranac Lake, Tupper Lake Village, Lake
Placid, Jay, Tupper Lake, Wilmington, North Elba, Newcomb,
Harrietstown, North Hudson, Essex, Elizabethtown, Minerva, Keene,
Lewis, St Armand, Brighton, Westport, and Piercefield.
This includes Interstate 87 near mile marker 94, and between mile
markers 96 and 127.
Instruction:
If outdoors, consider seeking shelter inside a building.
Very heavy rainfall is occurring with these storms and may lead to
localized flooding. Slow down and remain aware for changing road
conditions. Do not drive your vehicle through flooded roadways.
Frequent cloud to ground lightning is occurring with these storms.
Lightning can strike 10 miles away from a thunderstorm. Seek a safe
shelter inside a building or vehicle.
