The National Weather Service in Albuquerque has issued a
* Flash Flood Warning for...
South Central Cibola County in west central New Mexico...
* Until 545 PM MDT.
* At 240 PM MDT, Doppler radar indicated thunderstorms producing
heavy rain across the warned area. Between 0.75 and 1.5 inches of
rain have fallen. The expected rainfall rate is 1 to 2 inches in 1
hour. Additional rainfall amounts up to 1 inch are possible in the
warned area, and soils are already saturated from rainfall
yesterday. Flash flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly.
HAZARD...Flash flooding caused by thunderstorms.
SOURCE...Radar indicated.
IMPACT...Flash flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas,
highways, streets and underpasses as well as other poor
drainage and low-lying areas.

Mainly rural areas of South Central Cibola County.
The El Malpais National Monument area betweeen and near New Mexico
State Routes 53 and 117. This also includes the La Ventana Natural
Arch and The Narrows recreational areas.
Instruction:
Do not drive your vehicle into areas where water covers the roadway.
The water depth may be too great to allow your car to cross safely.
Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood
deaths occur in vehicles.
Remain alert when hiking in steep, narrow canyons. Know where you are
relative to low spots and drainages.
