The National Weather Service in Albuquerque has issued a
* Flash Flood Warning for...
Central Cibola County in west central New Mexico...
* Until 800 PM MDT.
* At 455 PM MDT, Doppler radar indicated thunderstorms producing
heavy rain across the warned area. Between 0.75 and 1.5 inches of
rain have fallen. The expected rainfall rate is 1.5 to 2 inches in
1 hour. Additional rainfall amounts of 0.25 to 1 inch are possible
in the warned area. Flash flooding is ongoing or expected to begin
shortly.
HAZARD...Flash flooding caused by thunderstorms.
SOURCE...Radar indicated.
IMPACT...Flash flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas,
highways, streets and underpasses as well as other poor
drainage and low-lying areas.

Mainly rural areas of Central Cibola County.
This includes New Mexico State routes 53 and 117 across the El
Malpais.
Instruction:
Do not enter or cross flowing water or water of unknown depth. Turn
around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood
deaths occur in vehicles.
Arroyos, streams, and normally dry rivers can become raging killer
currents in a matter of minutes. Water in arroyos can travel many
miles and take hours to reach your location from upstream rain areas.
