Description:
At 233 PM MDT, emergency management reported flash flooding with
multiple evacuations occurring. Between 1 and 2 inches of rain have
fallen. The expected rainfall rate is 1.5 to 2 inches in 1 hour.
Additional rainfall amounts of 0.5 to 1.5 inches are possible in the
warned area. Flash flooding will continue.
HAZARD...Life threatening flash flooding. Thunderstorms producing
flash flooding.
SOURCE...Emergency management reported.
IMPACT...Life threatening flash flooding of creeks and streams, urban
areas, highways, streets and underpasses.
Some locations that will experience flash flooding include...
Zuni Pueblo, Black Rock, Ramah, Pescado and Chi Chil Tah.
Multiple evacuations are ongoing at Old Gallup Road, St. Anthony
Road, and Chavez Circle due to flash flooding.
Instruction:
Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood
deaths occur in vehicles.
Be aware of your surroundings and do not drive on flooded roads.
Arroyos, streams, and normally dry rivers can become raging killer
currents in a matter of minutes. Water in arroyos can travel many
miles and take hours to reach your location from upstream rain areas.
