Description:
At 156 PM MDT, emergency management reported thunderstorms producing
heavy rain across the warned area. Between 0.5 and 1.5 inches of rain
have fallen, and multiple water rescues are occurring. The expected
rainfall rate is 1.5 to 2 inches in 1 hour. Additional rainfall
amounts of 0.5 to 2 inches are possible in the warned area. Flash
flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly.
HAZARD...Life threatening flash flooding. Thunderstorms producing
flash flooding.
SOURCE...Emergency management reported.
IMPACT...Life threatening flash flooding of creeks and streams, urban
areas, highways, streets and underpasses.
Some locations that will experience flash flooding include...
Gallup, Church Rock, Vanderwagen, Yah-Ta-Hey, Rock Springs, Red
Rock State Park, Allison, Red Rock, Gamerco and Mentmore.
This includes Interstate 40 between Mile Markers 16 and 33.
Instruction:
Do not enter or cross flowing water or water of unknown depth!
Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood
deaths occur in vehicles.
Arroyos, streams, and normally dry rivers can become raging killer
currents in a matter of minutes. Water in arroyos can travel many
miles and take hours to reach your location from upstream rain areas.
