Description:
At 239 PM CDT, Doppler radar was tracking a strong thunderstorm
capable of producing waterspouts over marine areas near Lake
Catherine, or 7 miles east of New Orleans, moving northeast at 10
mph.
HAZARD...Waterspouts and winds in excess of 40 mph.
SOURCE...Radar indicated.
IMPACT...Waterspouts can easily overturn boats and create locally
hazardous waters. Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs
and blow around unsecured objects.
Locations impacted include...
New Orleans, Slidell, Eden Isle, and Lake Catherine.
This includes Interstate 10 in Louisiana between mile markers 252 and
256, and between mile markers 259 and 265.
Instruction:
If outdoors, consider seeking shelter inside a building.
If on or near marine areas, get out of the water and move indoors or
inside a vehicle. Remember, lightning can strike out to 10 miles from
the parent thunderstorm. If you can hear thunder, you are close
enough to be struck by lightning. Move to safe shelter now! Do not be
caught on the water in a thunderstorm.
