Description:
At 201 PM CDT, Doppler radar was tracking a cluster of strong
thunderstorms along a line extending from near Kenner to near
Estelle. Movement was east at 15 mph.
HAZARD...Winds in excess of 40 mph.
SOURCE...Radar indicated.
IMPACT...Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around
unsecured objects.
Locations impacted include...
New Orleans, Kenner, Chalmette, Avondale, Metairie, Marrero, Harvey,
Timberlane, Belle Chasse, Jefferson, Gretna, Harahan, Westwego, River
Ridge, Estelle, Woodmere, Elmwood, Terrytown, Bridge City, and
Waggaman.
This includes the following Interstates...
Interstate 10 in Louisiana between mile markers 218 and 242.
Interstate 310 between mile markers 1 and 2.
Interstate 610 between mile markers 1 and 4.
Instruction:
If outdoors, consider seeking shelter inside a building.
Torrential rainfall is also occurring with these storms and may lead
to localized flooding. Do not drive your vehicle through flooded
roadways.
If on or near marine areas, get out of the water and move indoors or
inside a vehicle. Remember, lightning can strike out to 10 miles from
the parent thunderstorm. If you can hear thunder, you are close
enough to be struck by lightning. Move to safe shelter now! Do not be
caught on the water in a thunderstorm.
