Description:
Corrected for grammar and updated with storm name. ...TROPICAL STORM BAVI (09W) CONTINUES TO STRENGTHEN AS IT MAINTAINS ITS APPROACH TOWARDS THE MARIANAS... Tropical Storm Bavi (09W) continues to gain strength and become better organized as it heads towards the Marianas. Maximum sustained winds have increased to 60 mph. Currently, TS Bavi is located near 11.2N 159.7E. This is approximately 1015 miles east of Guam, or 975 miles southeast of Saipan. 09W is expected to continue strengthening, likely passing between Guam and Anatahan as a well-developed typhoon. WHAT WE'RE MORE SURE OF: - This could be a significant event for Guam and a vast majority (southern half at least) of the CNMI. - The typhoon may undergo RI (Rapid Intensification) before and/or during its approach to the Marianas. - Significant impacts to infrastructure are a distinct possibility - RESIDENTS SHOULD CONTINUE PREPARING for a major, impactful event. WHAT WE'RE LESS SURE OF: - What will be the exact track (how close will the center be to Guam, Rota, Tinian, or Saipan as it crosses the Marianas). - Exact timing of when the worst conditions will be. - How long will the worst conditions last. SUMMARY AND RECOMMENDATIONS: - All residents of Guam and the CNMI should continue to PREPARE NOW for the typhoon. - Please be sure to check on the elderly and those with a disability to see if they need assistance preparing or getting things. - Have multiple ways to receive updated storm information.
