Description:
At 531 PM MST, Doppler radar was tracking strong thunderstorms along
a line extending from near Four Peaks to 6 miles north of Queen
Valley. Movement was northwest at 15 mph.
HAZARD...Wind gusts up to 40 mph.
SOURCE...Radar indicated.
IMPACT...Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around
unsecured objects.
Locations impacted include...
Apache Junction, Gold Canyon, Roosevelt, Gold Camp, Roosevelt Dam,
Lost Dutchman State Park, Goldfield, Canyon Lake, Superstition
Mountains, Tonto National Monument, Four Peaks, Kings Ranch, Apache
Lake, Queen Valley, and Tortilla Flat.
This includes the following highways...
US Highway 60 between mile markers 195 and 204, and between mile
markers 218 and 219.
AZ Route 188 between mile markers 237 and 247.
Instruction:
If outdoors, consider seeking shelter inside a building.
If on or near lakes along the Lower Salt River canyon, get out of
the water and move indoors or inside a vehicle. Remember, lightning
can strike out to 10 miles from the parent thunderstorm. If you can
hear thunder, you are close enough to be struck by lightning. Move
to safe shelter now! Do not be caught on the water in a thunderstorm.
Persons in campgrounds should consider seeking sturdy shelter until
these storms pass.
A Severe Thunderstorm Watch remains in effect until 900 PM MST for
south central, southeastern and east central Arizona.
