Description:
At 1139 PM HST, radar and rain gauges indicated heavy rain falling
over the northern half of Oahu. Rain was falling at a rate of 1 to 3
inches per hour. Flash flooding is ongoing potentially making
roadways impassable. Flooding conditions will rapidly worsen as
additional heavy rain continues to fall over the next hour. Oahu
Emergency Management officials are reporting streams and drainages
near Waialua are rapidly filling up with water.
HAZARD...Heavy rain producing life threatening flash flooding.
SOURCE...Radar and automated gauges.
IMPACT...Flooding in drainages, streams, rivers, roads,
properties, and other low-lying areas. Public road
closures possible in some areas. Landslides are possible
in steep terrain.
Some locations that will experience flash flooding include...
northern half of Oahu, along and north of a line from Waianae
Valley to Schofield Barracks to Kualoa Ranch.
Instruction:
Stay away from streams, rivers, drainage ditches, and culverts, even
if they are currently dry.
Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the
dangers of flooding.
The heavy rains may cause rock and mudslides in steep terrain areas.
