...PERIODS OF SNOW FOR PARTS OF THE PANHANDLE THROUGH SUNDAY NIGHT... .A heavy band of snow is moving northward through the panhandle, bringing a short periods of moderate to heavy snow ongoing at Haines. This band will move over relatively quickly, snow showers along the back side of the band will continue through tonight with periods of light to moderate snow, Advisory extensions may be needed through Sunday. For the second separate Winter Weather Advisory across the southern panhandle, temperatures are expected to start cooling through Sunday with bands of snow moving through the southern and central panhandle by the afternoon into Sunday night. Accumulations in the south will be the highest on the higher elevations of Prince of Wales Island midday Sunday, but will have more accumulations expected at sea level by Sunday evening and night as temperatures cool Sunday evening. * WHAT...Snow. Total snow accumulations of 3 to 6 inches. Winds gusting as high as 30 mph. Visibilities 1/2 mile or less. * WHERE...City and Borough of Yakutat. * WHEN...Until 4 AM AKDT Sunday. * IMPACTS...Plan on slippery conditions. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS...A second band of snow will push into Yakutat from the east shortly with rates as high as half to one inch per hour. Visibilities will be reduced to 1/2 mile or less in heavier snow. Snow showers will then continue to be intermittent through the night on the back side of the front.
