Description:
* WHAT...Heavy snow possible. Total snow accumulations 1 to 2 feet
over the higher elevations of southern and eastern YNP. 6 to 12
inches in central portions of Yellowstone mainly above 7,500 ft,
and between 1 and 4 inches in Lamar Valley and Mammoth. Winds
could gust as high as 50 mph at times.
* WHERE...Yellowstone National Park.
* WHEN...From this evening through Saturday afternoon.
* IMPACTS...Travel could be very difficult especially in the
backcountry.
* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Snowfall will differ in intensity over a 3
day span with periods of moderate to heavy snowfall. Periodic wind
gusts in excess of 50 mph and snowfall will likely create near
whiteout conditions at times. Warm temperatures during the day
will likely lead to a transition over to rain, mainly across
elevations below 7,500 feet with a return to snow by nightfall.
