...A WINTER STORM WARNING IS IN EFFECT FROM 6 PM HST THIS EVENING TO 6 PM HST SUNDAY FOR THE BIG ISLAND SUMMIMTS ABOVE 12000 FEET... .A kona storm is expected to bring heavy snow and strong winds to the summits beginning this evening and lasting through Sunday afternoon. * WHAT...Heavy snow expected. Total snow accumulations up to 10 inches. Winds gusting as high as 60 mph. * WHERE...Big Island Summits. * WHEN...Until 6 PM HST Sunday. * IMPACTS...Travel could be very difficult to impossible. Blowing snow will significantly reduce visibility at times, with periods of zero visibility.

A Winter Storm Warning means significant amounts of snow, sleet, and ice are expected or occurring. Strong winds are also possible. This will make travel very hazardous or impossible. Any travel plans to the summits should be postponed until the threat diminishes.
