Description:
A tropical disturbance, known as JTWC's Invest 99W, is currently
centered near 7N147E west of Weno, Chuuk. This system is starting to
develop and is expected to move to the west-northwest as it moves
through the outer islands of Yap State. The chance of this system
developing into a significant tropical cyclone is rated as sub-low by
Joint Typhoon Warning Center (JTWC). Current estimations has the
system passing by or over Fais and Ulithi before moving northward
into the Philippine Sea. This system is expected to bring numerous to
widespread showers with possible heavy down pours, gusty winds and
choppy seas. In addition, high uncertainty remains regarding rainfall
amounts, but model trends indicate 3 to 5 inches over the next 72
hours. Yap Proper and Palau may also experience this disturbance as
models are not in alignment on when the northward turn is anticipated
to happen.
As of this writing, combined seas are expected to become choppier,
however remaining below 22 knot winds and 10 foot sea conditions.
Residents are urged to pay close attention the next few days to your
local emergency management, the National Weather Service Guam web
page (which can be found at www.weather.gov/gum), information put
out by Weather Service Offices Yap and Palau, and our social media
pages.
