Expected
Effective:
April 11, 2026 - 1:31am
Expires:

Description:
There is an elevated risk for fire spread today across southeast New York. Northwest winds will gust to 20 to 30 mph while relative humidity falls to 25 to 30 percent. These conditions, along with continued drying of fine fuels, could support the rapid spread of any fires that ignite, which could quickly become difficult to control. Conditions should improve this evening as winds diminish and relative humidity increases. Relative humidity on Sunday should fall to 30 to 40 percent. South winds may gust as high as 20 mph in the afternoon. New York's annual statewide burn ban is in effect until May 14. Use caution when handling any potential ignition sources, including machinery, cigarettes and matches. The forecast considers meteorological, fuel, and land conditions, and has been developed in coordination with state fire and land management officials.
