Description:
At 158 PM EDT, Doppler radar was tracking a strong thunderstorm near
Accident, or 7 miles southwest of Bittinger, moving east at 45 mph.
HAZARD...Wind gusts up to 40 mph.
SOURCE...Radar indicated.
IMPACT...Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around
unsecured objects.
Locations impacted include...
Oakland, Westernport, Bittinger, Grantsville, Accident, Barton,
Franklin, Merrill, Jennings, Deep Creek Lake State Park, Swallow
Falls State Park, McHenry, Big Run State Park, New Germany, Piney
Grove, McComas Beach, Dogwood Flats, and Reynolds.
This includes Interstate 68 in Maryland between mile markers 19 and
25.
Instruction:
If outdoors, consider seeking shelter inside a building.
This storm may intensify, so be certain to monitor local radio
stations and available television stations for additional information
and possible warnings from the National Weather Service.
If on or near Deep Creek Lake, get out of the water and move indoors
or inside a vehicle. Remember, lightning can strike out to 10 miles
from the parent thunderstorm. If you can hear thunder, you are close
enough to be struck by lightning. Move to safe shelter now! Do not
be caught on the water in a thunderstorm.
