Description:
* WHAT...Flooding caused by an ice jam continues to be possible.
* WHERE...Aniak.
* WHEN...Through Thursday evening.
* IMPACTS...Ice jams may result in flooding of rivers, creeks,
streams, sloughs, and other low-lying flood prone locations.
Water may impound behind a jam which may cause flooding several
miles upstream.
* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...
- As of Wednesday afternoon, the breakup front is jammed 3-5
miles upstream from Aniak, with 18-20 miles of ice
accumulated behind it. The river is mostly ice free from
downstream of Napaimute to just downstream of Sleetmute.
Original intact ice is still in place downstream of Aniak.
Residents of Aniak should be prepared for flooding and ice
jams as this ice moves past the community.
Now is the time to take precautions. Where possible, move
items to higher ground and prepare your community for
possible flooding.
