Relative humidity values are expected to drop into the teens and lower 20s across the whole region. Valley winds will gust up to 20 mph or more, with wind gusts up to 30 mph across the highest elevations of the East TN mountains. Sunday will be similarly dry but with slightly weaker winds and from out of the south.

As a result, the combination of dry fuels from the ongoing drought, low relative humidity and gusty winds will lead to an increased fire danger across southeast NC today. Strong north to northeast winds at 15 to 25 mph with gusts up to 30 to 35 mph will be accompanied by relative humidity values falling to 20 to 30 percent this afternoon.
