Description:
* WHAT...Heavy snow and blowing snow expected. Total snow
accumulations between 5 and 10 inches, highest amounts from
Ninilchik to Nikiski. Winds gusting as high as 40 mph. Visibility
as low as one half mile or less at times.
* WHERE...Western Kenai Peninsula.
* WHEN...From 11 PM this evening to 9 PM AKST Friday.
* IMPACTS...Roads, and especially bridges and overpasses, will
likely become slick and hazardous. Travel could be very difficult.
Areas of blowing snow could significantly reduce visibility. The
hazardous conditions could impact the Friday morning and evening
commutes.
* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...A strong storm system will track either into
Cook Inlet or Western Prince William Sound. The duration of snow
and magnitude of the winds will be determined by the exact storm
track. There will likely be a period of less snow and wind Friday
afternoon and evening; however, additional snow showers and a
shift in the wind from north to south is expected by Friday night.
Snow and gusty winds may linger into Saturday for communities
along Kachemak Bay.

A Winter Storm Warning for snow means severe winter weather
conditions will make travel very hazardous. If you must travel, keep
an extra flashlight, food and water in your vehicle in case of an
emergency.
